Pictures of Lynn

Our close friend Lynn Hines died in a car accident this Tuesday. I've posted some of the pictures we have of her here. It's a very sad time. Posted 10/18/03

So much changes, so much stays the same. Trish and I (especially Trish) have been hard working ever since the little sprout came along. Not very much time for fun unfortunately but plenty enough time to marvel at Sam.

Unsuprisingly, had a very busy couple of months after he was born. In a two week span the month after he was born we went to two weddings and two funerals. Lots of emotion....

So now I'm working on "spreading the joy". Took buckets of pictures around the beginning of September, tailed off (except for digital pics of Sam and "other stuff") that I hope to post soon. I would really like to redesign this site since I don't care for how it looks but that is minor in the scheme of things I need to do.

Since I wasn't busy enough I piled on more work and responsibility.

Next year (starting now) I will chair Bayfield Raceweek; thankfully there are tons of highly motivated, competent people who are committed to making it a success! That leaves as my task to articulate a vision, organize, budget, coordinate, cheerlead, browbeat and generally keep moving, all of the individual balls forward toward a common goal.

It's a great thing that there are lots of experienced "Been there, Done that" folks to point me in the right direction and their advice often makes me realize that I don't know nearly as much as I think I do!

Finding a goal is easy; make this the best damn Bayfield Raceweek ever held! Trouble is that pulling that feat off won't be so easy, since it has already been about the most fun time that.... insert your bawdy colloquialism here! More later....

After getting a bunch of flack for printing no pictures of myself, including unflattering ones, I put a few in the family album.

Sam had his first trip to Wayzata Yacht Club on Thursday. He was very excited. Or at least we think he was, sometimes it's hard to tell. Didn't take any pictures but he got a chance to look around and try out the stroller and dodge the after racing crowds. Dad was out trimming a J22 (not with these guys though). We didn't do all that hot; rig too loose and out of phase on oscillating shifts, but that's another story....

Sam's been doing a lot of travelling lately. Had a physical on Friday which went great; already a half pound over birthweight after one week. I guess that's a good thing when the goal is to be back at birthweight after 2 weeks. Looks like we may have a chunky monkey growing. Beyond that nothing "medically interesting", our doctor happily reports. She laughed as we asked tons of questions along the lines of "if we stop watching him will he stop breathing?"....

At 4:13AM Friday, August 1, 2003, and after 28.5 hours of labor, Trish gave life to Samuel Cashin Garcia. Wow! Before then we only knew him by his squirming, and fuzzy, black and white pictures. But now, he looks like this.

It was a long and tiring delivery, and the days since have been filled with fun, jocularity, and very little sleep. We apologize for not getting in touch with all of our family and friends sooner and hope you know we haven't forgotten you. Thanks for all the great emails, calls, letters, visits and all of the other showings of support!

Over the next few days I plan to organize this page, including posting pictures as thumbnails, give the blow by blow of the final "pregnant" hours and generally try to get back in the groove of normal life (if that ever was possible).

Maybe even work a little bit!

All the best,

Herb
